If you're in L1/L2 support: Develop skills that AI cannot replicate in the IT context — complex system troubleshooting, user training and adoption support, vendor relationship management. Move toward L3 support, sysadmin, or cloud roles that require more complex judgment.
If you're in development: Use AI coding tools aggressively to increase your output, and invest in the skills that differentiate strong developers from AI-assisted output — system design, code architecture, complex debugging, security assessment. The developer who can review and direct AI-generated code is more valuable than the developer who competes with it.
For any IT role: Develop AI tool literacy specific to your domain. An IT support professional who deeply understands the AI ticketing tools at their organization is more valuable than one who uses them as a black box. An IT leader who can evaluate AI vendor claims, understand AI system risks, and build an AI governance framework for their organization is in very high demand.
